Manufacturing Engineer

About the Role

The Manufacturing Engineer will focus on process planning, layout design, line balancing, and the preparation of detailed process documentation such as work instructions and standard operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and plan manufacturing processes including tool procurement, storage solutions, and material handling.
• Drive continuous improvement and automation initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce effort.
• Manage manufacturing engineering tasks across assembly, fabrication, painting, and warehousing areas.
• Provide inputs during new product development to ensure manufacturability and ease of assembly.
• Lead new product industrialization including layout planning, tool and activity sequencing, standard time and takt time calculations, and facilities planning.
• Administer engineering change management including updating manufacturing BOMs, routings, and process documentation.
• Design small tools, pallets, fixtures to improve quality and efficiency.
• Collaborate cross-functionally for F4T projects, CAPEX planning, and PPAP documentation formulation.
• Program smart manufacturing systems such as robots and PLCs where required.
• Contribute to resolution of manufacturing issues both internally and at customer sites.
• Represent the Bengaluru facility and participate in global Volvo Group project teams.
• Conduct time and methods studies to optimize assembly and fabrication activities.
• Manage projects end-to-end, including procurement, implementation, troubleshooting, documentation, and training.
• Facilitate coordination among stakeholders and continuous production system improvements.

Authorities

• Approve tools, layouts, IT enablers, and work orders relevant to projects.
• Raise purchase requisitions and travel requests related to business needs.
• Implement changes in design, process documents, and manufacturing systems.
• Set performance targets, KPIs, and yearly objectives with progress reviews.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering preferred; alternatively Mechanical, Production or Industrial Engineering with postgraduate qualifications in Automation, Robotics, Digital Operations, Smart Industrial Systems or related fields.
• Between 2 to 6 years of experience in automation projects or manufacturing engineering roles.
• Experience in earthmoving, construction equipment, industrial equipment, automobile, or auto component industries advantageous.
• Strong practical knowledge of IT enablers in manufacturing, including automation, robotics, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
• Familiarity with process sequencing, tool design, layout planning, and capital expenditure project management preferred.
• Technical proficiency in engineering drawing interpretation and software including AutoCAD, ProE, Catia, MS Office 365, SAP (PP, MM, FM modules), VPM, Chinook, and Windchill.
• Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and teamwork skills with a proactive attitude.
