Role Overview

The Manager of Communications is a vital part of the College of Nursing's Communications Unit at the University of South Carolina, tasked with crafting and coordinating strategic communications initiatives to enhance the college's visibility and engagement across multiple marketing and media platforms. This position supports the college's educational, research, practice, and service missions by telling impactful stories, while ensuring alignment with institutional branding and priorities under limited supervision reporting to the Director of Communications and Public Relations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communications strategies to increase the College of Nursing’s community engagement and recognition.
  • Create and disseminate content aligned with the college and university's key messages and branding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and community partners to cultivate effective and consistent messaging.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently to support communications efforts.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education, healthcare, or similarly complex environments is preferred.
  • Proficient in social media management, digital communications, and audience engagement tactics.
  • Strong capabilities in writing, editing, proofreading, with familiarity in AP Style preferred.
  • Creative self-starter skilled at developing engaging content and graphics for websites and social media channels.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, web content management systems, and other digital communication technologies.
  • Basic skills in photography, video, and multimedia content production.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite across PC and/or Mac platforms.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills, capable of balancing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze communication performance data and apply insights for continuous improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and sustain relationships across diverse groups including academic and community stakeholders.
  • Collaborative and detail-focused professional exhibiting initiative, problem-solving, and adaptability.
