Role Overview

We are seeking a Maintenance Technician for a permanent position based in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. This role operates on a night shift schedule from Thursday to Saturday, working 12-hour shifts (7am to 7pm).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform machine changeovers, address stoppages and equipment breakdowns promptly to meet targets with minimal disruption to production schedules.
  • Conduct planned routine maintenance and adhere to schedules ensuring all machinery and plant equipment operate safely, efficiently, and comply with GMP standards.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults at an expert level.
  • Apply skills in programming PLCs and actively participate in technically complex projects aimed at process improvement or new process creation.
  • Design mechanical systems and oversee development through implementation.
  • Drive continuous equipment improvements within GMP guidelines.
  • Create Management of Change (MOC) documentation and manage it through the Quality Management System.
  • Design experiments and employ fault-finding techniques to enhance processes.

Additional Duties

  • Adhere to safety protocols at all times, reporting near misses immediately to the Environmental Health and Safety Department.
  • Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and security of maintenance and storage areas.
  • Keep detailed records of routine maintenance activities covering all equipment and plant.
  • Respond quickly and flexibly to breakdowns and stoppages to minimize production losses, coordinating with Engineering Supervisor and Operational Engineering Manager.
  • Engage in A3 problem-solving exercises to identify root causes of significant issues.
  • Analyze and redesign equipment and systems for process enhancements.
  • Plan and execute engineering improvement projects, including design and development leading up to validation.
  • Inform supervisors of any major repair or maintenance needs.
  • Identify and suggest improvements within production areas involving equipment or procedures.
  • Collaborate with production teams on continuous improvement efforts using proper change control procedures.
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble production equipment per routine maintenance schedules.
  • Set up machines and conduct changeovers within set target times to support production requirements.
  • Contribute to reducing changeover times by optimizing procedures and methods.
  • Ensure timely and precise completion of all required documentation such as tooling logs, setting sheets, online work records, and preventive maintenance sheets.
  • Promote and uphold Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.
  • Assist in training peers when necessary.
  • Use workshop tools to manufacture parts and perform repairs as needed.
  • Support projects involving trials and introduction of new products.
  • Perform other duties aligning with the company's overall objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Level 6 NFQ Advanced Certificate in mechanical or electrical disciplines or a Bachelor's, Associate Degree, or Diploma in Engineering; relevant experience may substitute educational qualifications.
  • Minimum of four years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated record of achieving results through effective management and leadership.
  • Ability to set clear goals, communicate effectively, and ensure tasks are completed to preset deadlines.
  • Strong multitasking abilities.
  • Proficient problem solver and troubleshooter with a proactive and dynamic approach.
  • Self-motivated with a focus on achieving outcomes.
  • Willingness to work across multiple shifts when required based on business demands.
  • Adaptable team player capable of collaborative work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
  • Commitment to personal and team health and safety, complying with safety protocols and cooperating with others on safety matters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in GMP or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and tools to foster continuous improvement.
