Role Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations for Property, Engineering, and Casualty underwriting within a sizeable general insurance setting.
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team comprising Underwriting Managers, Assistant Managers, and officers to ensure effective underwriting practices.
- Build and sustain relationships with existing and prospective corporate clients and brokers across Property, Engineering, Casualty, and General Accident lines to drive customer loyalty, business retention, growth, and excellent service standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including reinsurance, claims, actuarial, finance, accounts, legal, and compliance to ensure efficient business workflows.
- Utilize solid connections within reinsurance markets (London, DIFC, Singapore) to secure competitive reinsurance terms and placement assistance.
- Conduct underwriting on qualified risks aligned with delegated authority, manage facultative reinsurance arrangements, and review policy endorsements and contracts for technical correctness consistent with reinsurance agreements and company procedures.
- Handle audit inquiries, monitor timely documentation, support digital transformation of business processes, and contribute to Management Information Systems reporting.
- Evaluate risks and prepare quotations adhering to company underwriting standards and reinsurance structures.
- Lead negotiations for major deals with clients and insurance brokers.
- Attain yearly departmental targets for top-line revenue and profitability.
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with guidelines, processes, and audit compliances.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal, communication, and stress-management skills essential for leadership.
Educational and Professional Qualifications
- Preferably hold a Bachelor of Technology or Engineering degree.
- Minimum qualification includes ACII, Dip CII, or FIII credentials in insurance.
Experience Requirements
- At least 15 years of multi-line underwriting expertise, with a core focus on Property and Engineering insurance.
- Preferred additional exposure in Casualty, Liability, and General Accident insurance lines.
- Minimum of 10 years in leadership positions managing teams of at least 10 underwriting staff including managers and officers.
- Proven record in managing large portfolios profitably over extended periods.
- Candidates with less than 7 years tenure in their present organization are not eligible.
- Experience within the GCC region is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of underwriting techniques and marketing.
