Role Overview

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for preparing and analyzing customer food samples while upholding efficiency, accuracy, and quality. Upon joining, new technicians will participate in a structured training program tailored to their development.

Working Hours

This is a full-time position requiring 39 hours per week. The normal schedule is Monday to Thursday from 11:45 to 20:00, and Friday from 11:30 to 20:00. Initial training shifts will be Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:15 for the first few weeks.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare food samples in readiness for analysis.
• Develop proficiency in laboratory procedures and adherence to prescribed test methods (SOPs).
• Ensure timely testing of client samples and communicate any delays to senior personnel.
• Log samples accurately and promptly in the tracking system.
• Complete documentation thoroughly, legibly, and on time.
• Monitor weights and temperatures following company protocols.
• Maintain adequate supplies of laboratory consumables such as pipettes and autoclave bags.
• Adhere continuously to ISO 17025 standards and internal quality procedures.
• Keep training records current and seek opportunities for additional training.
• Follow all safety, housekeeping, and quality requirements, reporting discrepancies as necessary.
• Maintain cleanliness of the lab environment including equipment like fridges, incubators, and water baths.
• Ensure sanitizer stations are regularly replenished with appropriate labeling.
• Manage the removal of expired reagents and media.
• File all client sample documentation appropriately.
• Participate in proficiency testing under guidance.
• Provide coverage for colleagues and partake in the weekend work rotation.
• Demonstrate flexibility by working in various departments as needed.
