Role Overview

This entry-level position is focused on transforming complex, unstructured client data such as utility bills and supplier spend files into accurate, standard datasets essential for climate impact analysis. The role involves building and managing data pipelines and standardized spreadsheets used for emissions calculations and reporting. Interaction with clients will be necessary to ensure data automation solutions reflect the practical realities of their operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Cleanse and reformat raw client datasets with varying layouts into uniform templates suitable for analysis.
• Develop and refine Python automation scripts to replace manual data cleaning and reporting procedures.
• Design creative approaches to resolve intricate data challenges and convert information into reliable carbon metrics.
• Implement systems to extract emissions-related data from online sources, supplementing measurements with product and supplier-specific footprint information.
• Participate in client consultations to comprehend operational contexts and data requirements, adapting processing accordingly.
• Detect and address data quality problems proactively before impacting downstream reports.
• Thoroughly document data handling processes and assumptions to support ongoing maintenance amid evolving client needs.
• Collaborate closely with colleagues to understand greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting principles and accurately apply them to datasets.
• Manage datasets supporting active decarbonisation strategies to reduce organisational emissions.

Candidate Profile

• Proficient in Python programming focused on data manipulation libraries such as pandas, and skilled with Excel features including formulas and pivot tables.
• Some practical experience creating automations or reports from unstructured data during academic projects, internships, or personal initiatives.
• Ability to handle and standardize complex, inconsistent real-world data sources.
• A problem-solving and innovative mindset suited to a flexible startup environment.
• Familiarity and comfort with AI-assisted coding and data tools like Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude.
• Strong communication skills to engage effectively in client meetings and clarify data requirements through thoughtful questioning and note-taking.
• Eagerness to acquire knowledge on GHG accounting and sustainability through hands-on learning.
• Highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of independently managing processes from start to finish.
• A genuine interest in climate change, sustainability, or environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.
• Must have legal authorization to work in the United Kingdom.

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic understanding or exposure to SQL and database management.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform services.
• Foundational knowledge of software engineering practices, useful for varied startup projects and internal tooling.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.

Employment Details

This full-time position operates onsite with a hybrid work model requiring a minimum of two days per week in the London office, from 9 AM to 6 PM. The starting salary is £30,000 with a review after three months and a performance-based salary progression planned between six to nine months.
