Overview
We are seeking a passionate and proficient gardener to join as a Horticultural Content Creator on a 12-month fixed-term contract based in London. The role involves producing a variety of high-quality content across print, digital, video, and audio platforms. You will be responsible for creating 2 to 3 pieces of written horticultural content weekly and appearing on camera, seamlessly adapting between magazine features, online guides, and scripts without losing precision, depth, or craftsmanship. This position demands genuine horticultural expertise earned through hands-on experience.
Role Responsibilities
- Create diverse horticultural articles including practical guides, seasonal advice, plant profiles, how-tos, and news pieces for various channels such as print and digital.
- Author in-depth magazine features that align with the established tone and expectations of Gardeners' World print readership.
- Produce supporting written material to complement video content, including articles and guides.
- Develop, script, and present engaging horticultural videos for YouTube and social media, displaying authority and a personable on-camera presence.
- Explore and repurpose the extensive Gardeners' World content archive to generate fresh video formats.
- Strategize written and video content jointly to complement each other without repetitive effort.
- Participate in the Gardeners' World podcast by helping shape team-based formats, developing stories, coordinating guests, and aligning themes across print and audio mediums.
- Collaborate with the editorial team to execute seasonal and strategic content objectives and innovate new formats appealing to both long-standing and emerging audiences.
- Maintain consistency in representing the Gardeners' World brand voice, adhering to editorial guidelines and values.
Candidate Requirements
- Hold horticultural qualifications equivalent to Level 3, such as RHS Level 3, a relevant degree, or demonstrable practical experience.
- Possess extensive hands-on gardening experience reflected in detailed and accurate work.
- Demonstrate excellent and adaptable writing capabilities with a portfolio showcasing successful print and digital content creation at volume and high quality.
- Understand and adjust writing style suitably across magazine features, online guides, and social media captions.
- Exhibit confidence or potential to present on camera, along with openness to coaching and presenter development.
- Collaborate effectively within teams, supporting peers’ content as well as leading personal projects.
- Manage multiple deadlines and workflows efficiently in both independent and team environments.
- Adopt an enthusiastic and open stance towards new technologies and editorial methods, including AI integration in content creation.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Previous experience working in editorial settings across print, digital, or broadcast platforms.
- Knowledge of SEO practices and experience writing for web audiences.
- Hands-on experience in video, social media, or podcast content production and comfort with audio recording.
- Existing social media presence or YouTube channel focused on gardening content.
