About the Role
VIA Rail Canada is advancing significant modernization endeavors to enhance its train services and infrastructure. From introducing a new state-of-the-art fleet to upgrading facilities, the company is committed to shaping the future of Canadian sustainable transportation. This role offers a chance to join a national effort supporting reliable and safe passenger rail travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning tasks inside and outside passenger rail cars.
- Vacuum and wash carpets, wipe down tables and seating to maintain cleanliness.
- Sanitize washrooms, showers, kitchens, and windows thoroughly.
- Manage potable water reservoirs by draining and refilling as necessary.
- Drain wastewater tanks promptly and effectively.
- Undertake outdoor duties in a variety of weather conditions.
Requirements
- Completion of a High School Diploma.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Background in hotel housekeeping, janitorial work, or building maintenance.
- Flexibility to work diverse shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical capability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
- Mechanical aptitude is desirable.
- Strong commitment to quality, productivity, and efficiency.
Work Schedule and Location
- This is a permanent part-time position averaging 40 hours per week.
- Work hours vary and include day, evening, night shifts as well as weekends and holidays.
- Opportunities for overtime work available.
- Positions located at Vancouver Maintenance Center or Mission Maintenance Centre.
Compensation and Benefits
- An hourly wage of $34.36.
- Additional shift premiums: $1.50/hour for evening shifts and $2.00/hour for night shifts.
- Comprehensive medical and dental benefits along with a pension plan.
- Travel pass granted following one year of service.
- Provision of uniforms and necessary equipment (boots, safety glasses, helmets, gloves).
- Access to free parking, locker rooms, showers, and cafeteria.
- Five personal days and up to ten sick days annually.
