Fitness Instructor

Job Overview

Hume City Council is currently looking to hire multiple casual Fitness Instructors at the Hume Leisure facilities in Sunbury, Victoria. This role involves delivering safe, high-quality fitness and recreational services within a welcoming environment, ensuring exceptional customer health club supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Embody the values of Hume Leisure by activating, connecting, and empowering the community through active engagement with members, guests, colleagues, and the public.
• Ensure all gym users’ health and safety by maintaining superior supervision standards.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and tidiness of gym equipment, fixtures, and amenities.
• Deliver gymnasium programs and instruction effectively and responsively to achieve excellence in training delivery.
• Promote and market Hume Leisure programs and facilities proactively to community members.
• Keep updated and trained in safety procedures, first aid, and physical conditioning through ongoing education.
• Assess client health and physical capabilities accurately to prescribe appropriate exercise regimens.
• Engage with the member fitness journey and utilize Hume membership applications consistently.
• Stay informed via internal communications across Hume Leisure Centres.
• Build rapport with members to encourage appointments and participate in special leisure events.
• Adapt to flexible working hours across all centre trading times.
• Manage public interactions to ensure respectful behaviour, preventing disturbance or property damage.

Qualifications and Experience

• Proven hands-on experience in gym operations including pre-exercise screening, fitness assessment, program design, supervision, and equipment upkeep.
• Strong knowledge of fitness safety standards to ensure a secure environment for both patrons and staff.
• Awareness of current fitness trends and program developments.
• Customer-oriented mindset with ability to identify member needs and respond appropriately.
• Competency in gymnasium safety supervision and emergency readiness.
• Capability to maintain focus and alertness during long shifts.
• Effective communication skills to convey fitness practices and safety instructions clearly.
• First Aid and CPR certification proficiency, able to perform demonstrations appropriately.
• Professional, friendly, and courteous demeanor.
• Understanding public health and safety regulations.

Mandatory Certifications

• At least Certificate III in Fitness.
• Valid Working with Children Check (Employee).
• Current fitness registration with Aus Active, Physical Activity Australia, or equivalent body.
• Valid First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009) certificates.
• A current driver’s license.
• Desirable: Certificate IV in Fitness or higher qualifications.

Additional Information

• Hourly pay rate is $44.66 plus Superannuation.
• Candidates must provide their availability across Monday to Sunday as part of their CV submission.
• Employment is subject to background checks including Reference Checks, Working with Children Check, and Criminal Record Check.
