Finance Director

Role summary

This Sydney CBD opportunity sits within a major listed global services group and offers broad ownership across a flagship division. The position is designed for a finance leader who wants end-to-end accountability, strong commercial exposure, and a pathway toward future CFO responsibilities.

You will report to the GM of Finance and have a dotted reporting line to the Divisional Managing Director. The remit spans the division’s P&L, balance sheet, forecasting, compliance, working capital, and commercial partnering. The business operates with a sizeable revenue base and combines professional services with the discipline expected of a listed company.

The remuneration on offer is a $250,000 package plus bonus.

Key responsibilities

• Take complete ownership of the division’s profit and loss and balance sheet, including management reporting, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and analytical updates for senior leadership.
• Drive forward-looking financial planning and analysis, including forecasting, headcount modelling, margin improvement, and budgeting across practice group revenue targets.
• Work closely with the Managing Director and practice group leaders as a trusted commercial advisor, helping finance move from a support role into a strategic business voice.
• Oversee tax and statutory compliance obligations such as income tax, GST, FBT, and reporting requirements for a listed entity.
• Manage working capital and cash flow, with active focus on debtors and accounts payable to strengthen cash conversion in a high-volume, transaction-heavy environment.
• Lead and develop a team of around 10 people across financial accounting, accounts payable, and credit control, including offshore team members.
• Strengthen the organisation’s commercial finance capability by improving FP&A discipline, practice group analysis, and insight-led decision support.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate is a CPA or CA-qualified finance leader with strong technical accounting capability and solid commercial business partnering experience. You should be equally comfortable reviewing month-end performance and presenting a commercial recommendation to senior stakeholders.

Experience leading teams is important, along with the ability to bring people together, build trust, and influence through consistency and direct communication. The role suits someone who takes initiative, forms relationships early, and is ready for a position that helps build a future path toward CFO leadership.
