Role Overview

The ETL Testing Engineer position involves ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of data during extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes within data warehouses and data marts. The professional will work closely with technical and business teams to validate ETL workflows, perform comprehensive testing, and uphold data governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret business requirements, data models, source-to-target mappings, and ETL specifications to plan testing activities.
• Create detailed ETL test strategies, plans, cases, and scenarios.
• Assess and validate data extraction, transformation, and loading procedures.
• Conduct source-to-target data validation and reconciliation to ensure data accuracy.
• Perform database testing utilizing complex SQL queries involving joins, stored procedures, views, and functions.
• Identify, document, monitor, and resolve defects and issues related to data quality.
• Verify data completeness, consistency, and overall integrity.
• Execute regression, integration, system, and performance tests on ETL workflows.
• Validate implementations of data warehouses and data marts.
• Collaborate effectively with ETL developers, business analysts, and data architects throughout the testing lifecycle.
• Participate actively in test execution cycles and provide transparent status updates.
• Ensure adherence to data governance frameworks and quality standards.

Required Skills and Technical Expertise

• Extensive experience in ETL and Data Warehouse testing.
• Advanced SQL proficiency including complex joins, stored procedures, views, functions, and data validation queries.
• Familiarity with ETL tools such as Informatica, Talend, DataStage, SSIS, Azure Data Factory (ADF), and AWS Glue.
• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, including Star and Snowflake schemas, fact and dimension tables.
• Data quality testing experience.
• Knowledge of Unix/Linux commands.
• Experience with API and file validation for CSV, XML, and JSON formats.
• Database skills encompassing Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Teradata, Snowflake, and MySQL.
• Preferred cloud expertise in Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, AWS Redshift, AWS Glue, and Google BigQuery.
• Familiarity with testing and issue tracking tools like JIRA, HP ALM, Quality Center, and Azure DevOps.

Educational and Professional Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working within Agile or Scrum development methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications and Additional Expertise

• Hands-on experience with Big Data testing technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, and Spark.
• Exposure to cloud data migration projects.
• Knowledge of automation frameworks relevant to ETL testing.
• Professional certifications in ETL, data engineering, Azure, AWS, or Snowflake platforms.
