Murphy is seeking a Structural Steel Estimator to join our Natural Resources division based in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland. Our company is dedicated to designing, constructing, commissioning, operating, modifying, and maintaining new energy networks and facilities in four countries. We focus on supporting customers through the energy transition, helping them meet net zero emissions goals. Murphy delivers safe and dependable specialist services as a trusted Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, Construction, Maintenance, and Decommissioning (EPFCM&D) partner, working with onshore and offshore oil and gas pipelines, gas diversions, and renewable energy projects.

Responsibilities

• Generate precise cost estimates collaborating closely with the work acquisition team.
• Analyze tender drawings and related documents thoroughly to define project scope and deliverables.
• Participate in tender kick-off, mid-bid, and adjudication meetings, plus conduct necessary site inspections.
• Create Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for various project scopes.
• Develop enquiry schedules for suppliers and subcontractors as per tender documentation, drawings, and specifications.
• Assess received quotations from suppliers and negotiate to ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Contribute to the project risk register and attend project risk meetings alongside estimators, planning engineers, design coordinators, and client representatives.
• Apply the correct contract schedule of rates when required.
• Engage in post-tender client negotiations.
• Attend tender handover meetings involving estimators and project teams.
• Prepare commercial tender handover documentation for project teams.
• Maintain and update estimating templates, cost databases, and tracking tools.
• Provide inputs for internal and client reporting.
• Foster and maintain strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience within the structural steel industry.
• In-depth knowledge of structural steel fabrication, construction methods, and commercial practices.
• Proven expertise interpreting structural engineering and architectural drawings, including complex steel frameworks.
• Strong understanding of measurement methods, quantity take-offs, and cost estimation techniques.
• Excellent analytical, organizational skills with strong accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to thrive within a collaborative team environment and meet strict deadlines under pressure.

Preferred Experience

• Previous work on bridge steelwork or other major infrastructure projects.
• Experience handling complex and technically demanding structural steel contracts.
