Role Overview
Join Hawke’s Bay Museum as an Educator to create and implement innovative education programmes that enrich students' learning experiences beyond conventional classrooms. This role focuses on developing curriculum-aligned activities that support the New Zealand Curriculum, engaging tamariki and rangatahi aged 5 to 18 years.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging education programmes linked to Hawke’s Bay Museum's collections and exhibitions.
- Develop meaningful learning opportunities for students aged 5–18 that complement classroom teaching.
- Collaborate closely with the Visitor Engagement Manager, curators, educators, and external partners to enhance the museum's education offerings.
- Facilitate educational activities across the museum, local schools, community spaces, and wider regions in Hawke’s Bay.
- Contribute to diversified education initiatives including school visits, outreach efforts, holiday programmes, tours, and special projects.
Candidate Profile
- Qualified educator with robust knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum and effective teaching strategies.
- Demonstrated success in engaging young learners in inclusive, participatory educational settings.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage programme delivery, planning, and administrative duties efficiently.
- Possession of a full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence is mandatory.
- Passion for museums, galleries, or cultural sectors and their role in education.
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and culturally responsive pedagogies.
Employment Details
This is a permanent part-time position based at Hawke’s Bay Museum, located on Napier’s Marine Parade, requiring 32 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role also involves travel to schools and community venues across Napier and the greater Hawke’s Bay area.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary package pro-rated for 32 hours per week: $54,800 - $64,500, inclusive of KiwiSaver.
