Position Overview

Gallery Books is seeking a dynamic and passionate Editorial Assistant to provide support to both an Executive Editor and a Senior Editor. The Executive Editor focuses on nonfiction—such as humor, memoirs, and pop culture—and character-driven suspense and upmarket commercial fiction. The Senior Editor handles nonfiction including humor, cookbooks, celebrity memoirs, essay collections, pop culture, and commercial fiction like romantic comedies, women's fiction, and book club selections.

The ideal candidate is an avid reader with a profound interest in pop culture and celebrity nonfiction, alongside commercial fiction genres.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluating manuscripts for potential acquisition.
  • Performing administrative tasks including organizing and scheduling meetings using MS Outlook.
  • Maintaining regular correspondence with authors and literary agents through phone and email.
  • Tracking expenses related to editorial projects.
  • Managing all stages of the production process.
  • Conducting project-related research and fact-checking.

Required Qualifications

  • Understanding of the publishing production process.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with excellent organizational and prioritization abilities.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate needs.
  • Ability to effectively juggle multiple deadlines that may often conflict.
  • Maintaining composure and efficiency when under pressure.
