Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Data Engineer role is focused on obtaining and analyzing data across Mayo Clinic to support business needs. This position demands a combined set of functional, technical, and data skills, requiring the ability to interpret business requirements into data solutions using available information.

• Construct large and complex data sets aligning with both functional and non-functional requirements.
• Demonstrate strong SQL skills, including the ability to perform complex queries involving multiple table joins and unions for data mining tasks.
• Conduct detailed data analyses and investigations to respond to customer queries with explanation and actionable recommendations.
• Exhibit a solid understanding of data modeling principles.
• Identify opportunities for improvement via critical thinking, including error detection, correction, and root cause analysis.
• Understand ETL processes supporting data verification and testing.
• Develop and maintain processes for data transformation, metadata management, dependency tracking, and workload handling.
• Handle large, disconnected datasets effectively to extract valuable insights.
• Analyze business objectives to create data-driven solutions tailored to meet user needs.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects efficiently, demonstrating good prioritization skills.
• Refine existing data solutions to satisfy business functional and non-functional demands.
• Explore and recommend enhancements through research on new and existing data sources, focusing on data management and quality improvement.
• Perform routine data quality audits for both internal and external datasets.
• Address and resolve data queries and issues promptly.
• Seek innovative ways to gather data by investigating new potential information sources.
• Collaborate with data and analytics professionals to enhance data system functionalities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution, OR an Associate degree with at least 2 years relevant experience.
• Proven ability to analyze and profile data to solve business challenges using advanced data modeling, database systems, or data mining techniques.
• Experience providing consultative input to various departments and committees.
• Proficiency in multiple problem-solving and planning methodologies including continuous improvement and analytical tools such as data analysis, profiling, and modeling.
• Capability to manage a diverse workload with competing priorities and keep up with trends and changes in the healthcare industry.
• Strong interpersonal communication and time management skills.
• Advanced analytical capabilities to propose effective solutions and commitment to excellent customer service.
• Experience using data analysis, quality monitoring, and profiling tools, for example Rapid SQL, AQT, Information Analyzer, or Informatics.

Employment Details

• Position exempt from overtime.
• Annual salary range: $102,300 to $143,200.
• Full-time schedule, 80 hours per pay period.
• Workweek: Monday through Friday during business hours.
• Expected travel: 10% or more.
• Position is not eligible for visa sponsorship, including F-1 STEM OPT extension.
• No weekend shifts or international assignments are expected.

This role is based onsite in Rochester, Minnesota, one of Mayo Clinic's primary campuses. Mayo Clinic also operates campuses in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, Jacksonville, Florida, and multiple Midwestern community locations, as well as international sites.
