Data Analytics Engineer

Role overview

The Data Analytics Engineer will oversee enterprise database administration, performance tuning, security, and analysis, while also building business intelligence and reporting solutions that help customers make informed decisions. The position blends database administration, advanced SQL work, analytics, BI reporting, and data engineering.

The selected person will be expected to keep data platforms available, accurate, secure, and efficient, while also turning raw data into practical dashboards and insights.

Key responsibilities

Core duties include developing advanced SQL solutions, supporting data pipelines, and improving database performance. The role also involves creating automated data processes, strengthening reporting systems, and contributing to data warehouse and data mart structures.

• Build and maintain complex SQL scripts, stored procedures, functions, views, ETL workflows, and batch-processing jobs.
• Write efficient queries using joins, window functions, CTEs, dynamic SQL, and other optimization techniques.
• Automate data synchronization, scheduled reporting, data validation, cleansing, and reporting pipelines.
• Support the design and maintenance of data warehouses, transformations, data marts, and analytics-ready structures.
• Analyze operational and transactional datasets to uncover trends, patterns, KPIs, exceptions, and risk signals.
• Create and manage executive dashboards, KPI scorecards, operational reports, drill-down analysis, and trend/performance reports.
• Help design and maintain star schemas, dimensional models, data marts, and reporting frameworks.
• Implement data quality checks, including validation rules, duplicate detection, consistency checks, and cleansing routines.
• Maintain documentation and standards for naming conventions, metadata, and data structures.

Requirements

This position calls for a relevant degree, solid hands-on experience with databases and SQL, and familiarity with analytics and BI tools. Professional certifications in SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Power BI, or data analytics are considered a plus.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics and Data Science, or a similar field.
• At least 2 to 5 years of experience in database administration, SQL development, or data analytics.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL; Oracle Database experience is an advantage.
• Practical experience with SQL scripting, query tuning, stored procedures, triggers, views, functions, indexing, performance tuning, and backup/recovery.
• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, data modeling, dashboard development, KPI reporting, and statistical/trend analysis.
• Exposure to ETL development, data transformation, data warehousing, and API integrations.
• Excellent analytical thinking, attention to detail, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate with teams, and explain technical ideas to non-technical audiences.
• Creative, goal-driven, and able to perform under pressure while meeting deadlines and targets.

Success in this role will be tracked through database uptime, query efficiency, timely delivery of reports and dashboards, data accuracy, reduced inconsistencies, reporting efficiency, and customer satisfaction with analytics outputs.

Compensation and benefits

The salary range for this role is GHS 4,000 to GHS 5,000 per month. Additional benefits include SSNIT, a 13th-month salary, and performance incentives.
