Crewing Duty Manager

Role Overview

The Crewing Duty Manager oversees the active management and optimization of airline crew resources to guarantee safe, compliant, and efficient operations. This leadership role supervises the Crewing Duty Supervisor, Crew Controllers, and Crew Logistics Coordinators during operational shifts to ensure assignments align with regulatory standards, company policies, and published schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Assign qualified flight and cabin crew to flights in compliance with GACAR Part 117, GACAR 121.1041, company manuals, and crew procedures.
• Lead and direct the Crewing Duty Supervisors and crew teams during shift operations.
• Implement crew recovery strategies and operational directives from the IOCC Duty Manager.
• Manage disruptions and irregular operations affecting crew schedules, minimizing impacts on flight timetables and network efficiency.
• Identify and act promptly on crew-related risks to maintain operational continuity and adherence to regulations.
• Approve and oversee adjustments to crew rosters, ensuring communication of changes to all relevant stakeholders including crew, stations, and service providers.
• Confirm all operational updates and crew movements are acknowledged and accurately documented.
• Evaluate crew requests considering operational demands, safety, regulatory rules, and resource efficiency.
• Escalate issues like crew shortages, qualification gaps, and fatigue concerns appropriately.
• Collaborate with Crew Planning and Training departments regarding roster challenges and crew utilization.
• Ensure compliance with duty time restrictions, rest requirements, and fatigue risk management protocols.
• Analyze operational data to detect trends and improvement areas, implementing corrective measures to enhance resilience and compliance.
• Maintain effective coordination with various operational departments and external service providers.
• Complete thorough shift handovers covering outstanding issues, risks, recovery plans, and follow-up needs.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Aviation Operations, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience as a Crewing Supervisor or at least 3 years as a Crewing Duty Manager.
• Proven expertise in airline crew control, real-time operations, or operational control.
• Experience managing irregular operations, crew disruptions, and recovery in commercial airline settings.
• In-depth knowledge of Flight Duty Time Limitations, fatigue management, and crew regulatory compliance.
• Familiarity with GACAR Part 117 and 121.1041 regulations.
• Experience liaising with Flight Operations, Network Control, Crew Planning, and related departments.
• Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Capability to remain composed and make effective decisions under time-sensitive conditions.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AIMS Crew Management System.
• Previous work in a low-cost or high-utilization airline environment.
• Background in Integrated Operations Control Centre environments.
• Formal training in crew control, operational control, fatigue risk, or disruption management.
• Experience leading shift-based airline operations teams.
