Role Overview

The Cost Engineer position offers an opportunity to be involved in large, high-impact projects that shape communities. The role involves a variety of cost management and analysis duties to support project success.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain spreadsheets for routine cost analyses, cash flow monitoring, and other cost-related evaluations.
• Conduct research and studies to develop methods for cost reduction and improved efficiencies.
• Collaborate with project teams, designers, subcontractors, and suppliers to address cost-related issues.
• Implement and oversee cost control processes; prepare reports on project costs, commitments, and cash flow.
• Assist in evaluating and negotiating change orders and invoice settlements.
• Work closely with Accounting to manage systems related to project accounting, cost control, procurement, and workflow.
• Oversee change management reporting and ensure project cost tracking aligns with established procedures.
• Support documentation processes including bulletins, change orders, and requests for information; compile materials for monthly reporting.
• Interpret various types of cost reports including contracts, general conditions, and fee analyses; prepare internal monthly financial status reports (CR-1s) for management review.
• Manage the preparation and review of monthly payment applications for owners and subcontractors.
• Maintain professionalism and uphold high-quality standards representing the company.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in engineering or construction management.
• Three to five years of relevant experience in construction or a related field.
• Support project management by monitoring and verifying committed costs during pre-construction and construction stages.
• Comprehensive knowledge of procurement processes, construction terminology, concepts, and standard documentation like bulletins, addenda, and change orders.
• Strong oral and written communication abilities.
• Familiarity with the project’s scope and deliverables.
• Capability to work effectively with minimal supervision within a team environment.
• Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines accurately.
• Proficient in budgeting, cash flow assessment, and financial reporting.
• Flexibility to handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Access.
• Expertise in project cost management software such as Prolog and JD Edwards or equivalents.
