Overview
The Creative Team of The Public Interest Network is seeking a dedicated content writer to help communicate and amplify the impactful work of affiliated environmental and consumer advocacy organizations such as PIRG and Environment America. This role involves crafting compelling narratives across multiple platforms including websites, email communications, newsletters, and annual reports while exercising significant independent judgment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with state directors and program teams of PIRG and Environment America to understand campaigns, issues, and program achievements.
- Develop and refine written content that captivates, motivates, informs, and persuades various audiences.
- Expand the reach of stories by adapting content for digital and print formats such as fundraising appeals, direct mail, and newsletters.
- Organize and plan workflow to ensure timely delivery of impactful content; manage involved team members to progress projects from conception to final product.
- Engage in continuous learning and skill refinement through training, editorial guidance, and feedback to enhance content quality.

- Possesses strong writing skills demonstrated through diverse formats including academic papers, news, blogs, campaign messaging, and fundraising materials.
- Has a sharp analytical mind to quickly understand complex issues, identify compelling story angles, and logically structure messaging from start to finish.
- Understands various communication forms and how to tailor storytelling to platforms ranging from brief social media posts to in-depth long-form articles.
- Is creative, adaptable, and ambitious with a proactive approach, eager to innovate and solve problems as circumstances evolve.
- Driven by a passion for environmental protection and social change, looking for a meaningful career with societal impact.
Additional Valuable Skills
- Familiarity with design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability to interpret and visualize data, including statistical concepts and chart creation; adept with Google Sheets.
- Competence in photography, illustration, or video production.
Compensation and Benefits
This full-time nonprofit position offers a target annual salary ranging from $38,250 to $42,000 for candidates with 1 to 3 years of relevant experience. Location
