Construction Site Material Purchaser & Store Coordinator

Overview

This role is responsible for acquiring and managing construction materials on-site, ensuring timely availability while controlling stock and maintaining accurate records. The position reports to the Project Manager or Management and supports both purchase and site operations departments.

Key Duties

• Procure construction materials, tools, and consumables by sourcing from local suppliers and vendors following procurement guidelines.
• Visit markets for urgent and routine purchases, comparing quotes from multiple vendors for best pricing and negotiating terms.
• Assure materials meet approved quality standards, brand specifications, and compliance requirements.
• Coordinate daily with Site Engineers and the Project Manager to forecast material needs and place orders to prevent work interruptions.
• Track order status, follow up on deliveries, and promptly report any delays, shortages, or variations in price.
• Manage physical stock, maintain detailed records of receipts, issues, transfers, and current inventory levels.
• Regularly reconcile stock records with actual inventory and maintain minimum stock thresholds.
• Ensure proper handling, labeling, stacking, and protection of materials from damage, theft, or decay.
• Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and delivery documents, reporting and coordinating replacements for discrepancies or damaged goods.
• Keep comprehensive documentation including purchase bills, invoices, quotations, and vendor information and submit necessary paperwork to accounting promptly.
• Maintain records of petty cash and advances for market purchases with thorough reconciliation.
• Identify and monitor slow-moving or excess materials to optimize stock utilization.

Requirements & Expectations

• Demonstrated honesty, responsibility, and organizational skills capable of independent site purchasing and store management.
• Familiarity with construction materials and knowledge of the local supplier market is highly desirable.
• The role demands accuracy and accountability with the goal of delivering the right material, at the right quality, quantity, price, and time while ensuring stock accountability.
