Role Overview

The Construction Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing extensive construction and infrastructure projects supported by CBM, with a focus on ensuring quality, regulatory compliance, cost efficiency, and timely completion. This position demands robust technical knowledge, contract management skills, and collaborative interaction with contractors, consultants, government bodies, and project partners. The role crucially safeguards CBM's infrastructure investments, guaranteeing accessibility, safety, and adherence to regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise planning, design reviews, and execution of major construction projects such as hospitals, schools, and rehabilitation centers.
• Ensure all construction activities comply with approved designs, specifications, and contract terms.
• Track project timelines and budgets closely to monitor progress.
• Facilitate coordination among contractors, supervising consultants, partners, and CBM teams.
• Review and provide guidance on construction contracts and Bills of Quantities.
• Secure adherence to Zambian building codes, statutory obligations, and occupational health and safety standards.
• Incorporate disability-inclusive and universal access features into project designs.
• Assess payment certifications, confirm completed work, and monitor cost changes, advising management accordingly.
• Identify project risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and assist in internal/external audits related to construction activities.
• Perform routine site inspections, generate comprehensive technical reports, and verify material and workmanship quality.
• Validate project completion certificates and oversee formal handover procedures.
• Engage with government ministries, local regulators, engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, and contractors to maintain project alignment.
• Provide detailed technical updates to senior management and funding bodies.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related disciplines; Master’s degree is advantageous.
• Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia or equivalent professional body.
• A minimum of 8 to 10 years managing large-scale construction projects, especially complex structures like hospitals and institutional facilities.
• Preferably experienced with NGOs, donor-funded initiatives, or public sector infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with FIDIC or comparable construction contract frameworks.
• Strong technical insight into structural, architectural, and MEP systems.
• Expertise in cost control, contract administration, and interpreting technical drawings.
• Proficient with project management software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledgeable about universal design principles and accessibility standards.
