About the Role
Join Dynacare's Toxicology team located in London, Ontario as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant. In this permanent full-time role, you will be responsible for preparing samples and reagents for routine analysis, performing simple non-interpretive tests under supervision, and ensuring strict adherence to quality control standards and Ministry of Health guidelines. Your detailed work will support critical diagnosis and treatment for the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately label and identify all specimens prior to testing.
- Manage unsuitable samples following established protocols.
- Operate complex laboratory instruments following departmental instructions.
- Carry out basic non-interpretive testing procedures autonomously.
- Ensure processing of abnormal, critical, and urgent STAT samples in accordance with department guidelines.
- Follow up on missing samples, documentation, and test results as required.
- Respond to inquiries and resolve problems courteously and professionally.
- Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure reagents and testing kits are within their validity period.
- Enter test results accurately into the company’s database.
- Execute quality control checks as specified in documented work procedures.
- Refer complex results for Medical Laboratory Technologist review.
- Monitor quality control protocols and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Strictly comply with pre-analytical and post-analytical quality assurance protocols as outlined in company manuals.
- Perform scheduled routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, documenting all maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
- Report equipment malfunctions and maintain required logbooks.
- Disinfect work areas and equipment daily to maintain safety and cleanliness.
- Store and dispose of specimens following relevant departmental procedures.
Candidate Profile
- Must have Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification, or have completed an approved laboratory assistant course, or possess a Diploma/Degree in Health or Science.
- Demonstrated strong data entry capabilities.
- Ability to effectively multitask in a fast-paced lab environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate within a team setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with AS400 Data Entry System or Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Prior experience working in Toxicology preferred.
- MLPAO designation is an asset.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- This position involves continuous standing and walking, requiring fine motor skills.
- Lifting and carrying loads up to 30 pounds may be required.
- Work environment includes exposure to biohazardous materials, chemicals, and variable noise levels.
- Shift work includes various shifts between 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday or Tuesday to Saturday.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range for this role is between $22.00 and $24.50, with final compensation depending on experience and education credentials.
