Job description
Job Overview
As a Cleaner under the supervision of a Cleaning Supervisor or designated authority, you will collaborate with a team to ensure that all areas within the premises are thoroughly cleaned and maintained according to assigned duties.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning tasks including sweeping, suction cleaning, mopping, dry buffing, spray cleaning, spray waxing, machine scrubbing and drying, as well as stripping and re-polishing floors using the correct equipment.
- Clean soft floor surfaces such as carpets and matting, effectively removing stains using appropriate methods.
- Maintain toilet and shower areas, cleaning all fixtures and fittings to a high standard.
- Dust, wash, and clean ledges, walls, fixtures, fittings, and internal surfaces up to a height of 3.35 meters; polish furniture when necessary.
- Empty and clean interior litter bins and transport waste to designated collection points.
Work Environment and Compliance
- Adhere to all relevant safety and health legislations including the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, COSHH Regulations, and associated legal requirements and codes of practice.
- Execute duties within the normal working conditions applicable to the role.
- Provide cover for colleagues on sick leave as per Education Authority protocols.
- Report absences according to established procedures, completing required documentation overseen by the Building Supervisor.
- Wear issued protective clothing or workwear and suitable flat-soled enclosed-toe footwear during cleaning activities.
- Ensure correct and safe use of cleaning equipment and report any faults immediately.
- Complete all necessary paperwork related to cleaning duties.
- Perform tasks within the competence level of the employee for roles graded at or below their current position.
Training Requirements
- Participate in required training for tasks within or above current grade, with payment applicable only when performing higher-level duties as mandated.
- Undergo induction and refresher trainings as provided by the EA cleaning service to fulfill statutory health and safety obligations.
Additional Information
The role involves working within educational institutions and is therefore subject to the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007, requiring successful applicants to obtain an enhanced disclosure check currently costing £33, with payment instructions provided at contract stage.

Candidate Criteria
Essential: Knowledge of cleaning methods, machinery, and health/safety requirements relevant to the role; ability to work under pressure, communicate effectively in English, organize tasks, collaborate within a team, and maintain a flexible approach to assigned duties.
Desirable: At least three months of cleaning experience outside the home environment and experience using a variety of commercial cleaning tools such as buffing machines.
