Caseworker

Role Overview

The Caseworker is responsible for offering culturally sensitive casework and counseling support aimed at enhancing the safety and welfare of youth in detention. The goal is to assist their positive journey throughout custody and support efforts to prevent recidivism while facilitating successful reintegration with family and community.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-standard statutory casework services to detained youth, utilizing a standardized risk assessment tool and intervention capabilities. Deliver, monitor, and assess culturally relevant interventions, including Departmental programs such as ART and CHART, following pertinent laws, strategies, and best practices.
• Identify individual needs and match appropriate programs and services that address offending behavior and promote positive personal development in alignment with legal and policy frameworks.
• Create and support an environment that encourages external access and intra-facility practices which promote normalized living and working conditions within the detention center.
• Engage actively in suicide risk evaluations and incorporate critical case management data into unified case plans for each youth.
• Collaborate efficiently within a multidisciplinary team to coordinate and supervise staff and external agency involvement for welfare, behavior management, assessment, and case management purposes.
• Perform administrative duties including case documentation, daily notes, report preparation, performance monitoring, and data management to maintain accountability and casework quality.
• Stay actively involved in training and professional growth activities to keep skills and knowledge aligned with modern, evidence-based practices and department goals.
• Coordinate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders, such as Child Safety Service Centres, Youth Justice Service Centres, courts, legal representatives, police, families, community groups, and Indigenous agencies, to support case planning, review, legal matters, and post-detention services.
• Contribute to the overall security and safety of the center by adhering to operational procedures relevant to the Caseworker role.
