About the ExcelHer Program
The ExcelHer initiative by Volvo Group India offers professionals who have experienced a career break of one year or more the chance to restart their professional journey. This 9-month assignment provides mentorship from business leaders, opportunities for professional development, and collaboration across diverse teams and technologies.
Role Overview
The CAD Engineer will be entrusted with preparing, coordinating, and reviewing utility layouts and plant engineering documentation for industrial projects. This role requires collaboration with process, civil, architectural, utility teams, and equipment suppliers to ensure seamless design integration and adherence to statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop utility layouts for industrial utilities including water, compressed air, gas, steam, chilled water, firefighting, and drainage systems.
- Plan utility routing while accommodating process needs, maintenance access, and future expansions.
- Optimize utility distribution networks for efficient operation of manufacturing plants.
- Prepare and review effluent treatment plant (ETP) layouts, ensuring proper equipment placement, utility connections, and integration with overall plant infrastructure.
- Analyze and interpret vendor drawings, such as those from paint shop suppliers and process vendors like Dürr.
- Review engineering drawings including P&ID, general arrangement, utility schematics, and equipment layouts to confirm utility requirements and identify constraints.
- Coordinate with civil, architectural, and structural teams, ensuring utility systems fit seamlessly within building and structural designs.
- Perform clash detection between utilities and other installations, collaborating with equipment suppliers to resolve conflicts efficiently.
- Assist in preparing drawings and documentation for governmental approvals ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory standards.
- Support site teams daily by providing updated drawings, conducting site visits, and resolving engineering issues alongside contractors and consultants.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Industrial Engineering or related field.
- Five to eight years of experience in industrial plant projects, automotive manufacturing, paint shops, or utility engineering.
Technical Expertise
- Mandatory proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, or similar coordination software is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of interpreting P&IDs, GA drawings, utility layouts, PEB, architectural and structural drawings.
- Understanding of industrial utility systems and effluent treatment plant infrastructure.
- Experience in multidisciplinary coordination and performing clash detection.
