Overview

The City of Edinburg is seeking a committed Building Maintenance Assistant to manage upkeep activities and conduct repairs on city properties. This role requires performing maintenance using the appropriate tools and materials, ensuring buildings remain safe and operational.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a competitive wage of $13.38 per hour. Daily Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair city buildings, including using ladders and replacing light bulbs.
  • Perform general custodial tasks and adhere to assigned work schedules.
  • Identify and report safety hazards or damages in city facilities.
  • Secure buildings after work hours or as required.
  • Assist in setting up and dismantling decorations and equipment for special events.
  • Conduct minor repairs such as fixing wood surfaces, painting areas, and replacing defective electrical switches or fixtures.
  • Work on projects complying with city, state, and safety regulations.
  • Provide support to other divisions as needed.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and use custodial materials properly.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Certificates from community college, vocational/business, technical, or correspondence schools are advantageous.
  • Combination of related education and experience is acceptable.
  • Previous experience not required, but one year of general carpentry, plumbing, and repair work is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class "C" driver's license.

Additional Requirements

  • Applicants must undergo and pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required, administered at city expense.
