About the Role
Our client in the financial services sector, based in Westmeath, Ireland, is seeking a knowledgeable BI Engineer for a permanent full-time position. This role involves creating, maintaining, and supporting business intelligence solutions to convert complex datasets into accurate and comprehensible insights. Candidates ideally reside in West Dublin or Westmeath, or are open to relocating within a reasonable commuting radius to the office.
Responsibilities
- Develop, build, and sustain interactive Power BI dashboards and reporting tools that align with defined business needs.
- Translate business requirements and reporting metrics into functional visualizations, measures, and drill-through options.
- Enhance and maintain semantic data models, including managing relationships, hierarchies, calculations, and associated metadata.
- Create optimized and maintainable DAX formulas following best practices for performance and error management.
- Assess and improve Power BI report performance by analyzing model architecture, calculations, filters, and visual load times.
- Oversee management of reporting resources within Microsoft Fabric and Power BI Service, including workspace configuration, refresh scheduling, security, and deployment.
- Apply security protocols such as workspace permissions, audience restrictions, and row-level security safeguards.
- Assist in user acceptance testing, production rollouts, handling enhancement requests, and resolving post-implementation issues.
- Prepare and update thorough technical and user documentation for dashboards, datasets, calculations, data sources, and refresh operations.
- Support regular reporting activities, manage access requests, repeat reporting cycles, and provide day-to-day support.
Requirements
- At least three years’ experience in developing and maintaining Power BI solutions in a commercial setting.
- Strong hands-on skills with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, and Power Query.
- Proven capability in creating and managing semantic models and report datasets.
- Proficient in SQL for developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting complex queries and views.
- Experience in data validation and supporting datasets utilized by BI systems.
- Solid understanding of dimensional data modeling, report structures, and integration of BI platforms with data engineering pipelines.
- Ability to convert business needs into accurate, intuitive, and maintainable reporting solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities in project delivery, system enhancements, and ongoing support.
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills for explaining technical details to non-technical users.
- Preference for candidates located near West Dublin or Westmeath or willing to relocate for frequent office presence.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric’s workspace management, semantic modeling, security, scheduling, and deployment processes.
- Background working in financial services or similarly regulated industries.
- Familiarity with cloud analytics platforms and modern data architecture concepts.
- Understanding of UX/UI principles applicable to dashboard and report design.
- Experience supporting governance related to reporting, controlled releases, and environment segregation.
- Knowledge of managing Power BI capacity and advanced performance tuning of reports.
Educational Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Microsoft, Power BI, or data analytics certifications are advantageous.
