Role Overview

This position is centered on guiding large-scale database migration and modernization programs into Azure. The role calls for hands-on expertise in database architecture, cloud migration planning, performance optimization, and production cutover support.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and deliver complete migration plans for moving databases from AWS and on-premises platforms into Azure.
• Carry out schema transformation, database migration, and workload modernization work.
• Architect and implement solutions using Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, and other Azure-native database services.
• Maintain strong database standards for performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
• Improve database behavior through indexing, query tuning, and overall performance optimization.
• Check that data remains accurate and consistent throughout the migration lifecycle.
• Align database designs with target-state architecture to support application modernization efforts.
• Work closely with infrastructure, DevOps, application, and cloud teams across migration initiatives.
• Assist with testing, validation, cutover, and production-readiness activities.
• Prepare technical documentation, runbooks, and related migration materials.

Required Skills and Experience

• Practical, hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, and NoSQL databases.
• Prior experience migrating databases from AWS and on-premise environments.
• Solid understanding of database migration approaches, frameworks, and tools.
• Exposure to AWS database platforms such as DynamoDB and OpenSearch.
• Good grasp of cloud database design and architecture.
• Strong capability in query tuning, indexing methods, performance tracking, and capacity planning.
• Working familiarity with Azure cloud services, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.

• Hybrid cloud migration experience
• FinOps and cloud cost optimization
• Experience in enterprise database modernization programs
