About the Role
The Assistant IT Manager plays a critical role in supporting the planning, execution, and ongoing maintenance of the company's IT systems and infrastructure. This position aids in managing the IT team and ensures all hardware, software, network, and security protocols operate efficiently while delivering technical assistance to staff members. The role also involves contributing to IT projects, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the IT Manager in overseeing daily operations related to IT and technical support services.
- Lead and guide IT support personnel by assigning responsibilities and tracking their performance.
- Maintain and resolve issues with computers, servers, network devices, and peripherals.
- Ensure IT infrastructure availability, security, and optimal performance.
- Oversee system backup procedures, disaster recovery plans, and continuity strategies.
- Coordinate installation of software, perform upgrades, and manage system upkeep.
- Handle administration of user accounts, permissions, and enforce security policies.
- Champion cybersecurity efforts such as antivirus management, patch deployments, and addressing vulnerabilities.
- Liaise with vendors and service providers for equipment procurement, servicing, and technical support.
- Track IT assets including inventory, license management, and asset records.
- Assist in budgeting and scheduling for IT projects to ensure timely completion.
- Develop technical documentation, create reports, and maintain standard operating procedures.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, applicable industry standards, and data privacy requirements.
- Provide training and ongoing technical support to end users when required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline.
- Between 3 to 6 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or managing IT infrastructure.
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience is advantageous.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency with Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Experience working with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, virtualization technologies, and cloud-based platforms.
- Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles and endpoint protection techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities for troubleshooting technical issues.
- Effective communication, leadership, and team management skills.
- Good organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects.
- Capacity to handle pressure and manage competing priorities efficiently.
