Assistant Director Portering

Role Overview

This key leadership position is central to advancing the Trust’s strategic vision, particularly aligned with Essentia’s objectives. The role commands a high degree of autonomy with ultimate responsibility for ensuring that all interpretations of legal and national portering guidance are transformed into actionable strategies and operational practices, guaranteeing compliance across all Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) sites.

Primary Responsibilities

• Formulate and maintain portering service standards and operational procedures across the GSTT facilities.
• Identify opportunities for service development driven by external trends or internal innovation, and devise appropriate responses.
• Lead and manage a team of managers overseeing nearly 180 portering staff professionals.
• Cultivate a safety-first culture among teams and suppliers to promote a secure environment for patients, employees, and visitors.
• Create, implement, and regularly update strategies, policies, business plans, and financial forecasts relevant to portering services.
• Achieve operational KPIs, both financial and non-financial, ensuring adherence to service standards and compliance with procurement and financial regulations.
• Promote psychological safety and a just culture by listening to concerns, challenging discrimination, and leveraging learning to enhance safety, quality, and staff experience.
• Lead through setting clear objectives, providing coaching and feedback, and fostering the professional development of team members.
• Participate in the Essentia Leadership Team, including working one weekend every three months and rotation on the Directorate on-call schedule.
