About Qantas and the Role

We are currently seeking a dedicated Aircraft Projects Engineer to contribute to high-profile and innovative cabin development initiatives as part of Qantas’ Fleet Renewal Strategy. This is a permanent full-time position located at our Mascot Corporate Campus in Sydney, with some possibilities for international travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within a specialized team of Engineers and Technical Officers to design and implement aircraft interior products and modifications on strategic projects affecting the Qantas Group aircraft fleet.
  • Create and manage design documentation that aligns with customer requirements.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and coordinate effectively with stakeholders and suppliers to ensure timely achievement of project milestones.
  • Ensure all modifications and designs comply with relevant certification and airworthiness regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Hold a professional engineering degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Avionics, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Structures, or possess equivalent industry experience or qualifications.
  • Experience providing expert engineering advice and support within Qantas Group, another airline, aircraft manufacturer, supplier, or consultancy environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CASR Part 21 and Part 42 regulations; familiarity with EASA and FAA regulations is advantageous.
  • In-depth aviation engineering background, particularly in cabin interior product development, including expertise in seats, monuments, galleys, lavatories, furniture, customer bars, lighting, systems, and in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC).
  • Proven ability to manage design projects of various sizes, meeting complex stakeholder needs under tight timelines and budgets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities combined with strict adherence to compliance and safety standards.
  • Competence in managing customer expectations and service level agreements effectively.
  • Knowledge of aircraft continuing airworthiness procedures and processes applicable to Qantas and other customer aircraft.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to prioritize competing tasks to meet deadlines without compromising attention to detail.
  • Self-driven, team-oriented, and passionate about aircraft interior products.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, project management software, and preferred familiarity with engineering workflow and maintenance tools like Smartsheet.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to convey complex technical information clearly and succinctly.
