About the Role
Avondale Construction Ltd is looking for a highly capable and independent Accounting Specialist to join our expanding team at our Halifax office. This role demands multitasking skills and precision in handling weekly payroll, supplier and subcontractor payments, and processing numerous invoices. Communication aptitude and organizational skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full payroll cycle weekly, including remittances, issuing Records of Employment (ROEs), and year-end T4 reconciliations.
- Process a high volume of supplier and overhead invoices adhering to internal protocols.
- Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documentation accurately.
- Coordinate swiftly with the Operations team to resolve invoice discrepancies.
- Address supplier inquiries professionally and promptly.
- Reconcile supplier accounts against statements and investigate discrepancies.
- Maintain Accounts Payable subledger in sync with the General Ledger, ensuring all transactions and payments are recorded correctly including credit issuance when applicable.
- Execute weekly payments to suppliers and subcontractors.
- Provide regular updates and escalate unresolved issues to the Controller.
- Perform other accounting tasks as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in accounting, finance, business, or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of three years accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
- Possession of a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is mandatory.
- Familiarity with Jonas Construction Software is advantageous.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail in data entry.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Trustworthy in handling financial records confidentially and precisely.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal abilities.
- Self-driven with minimal need for supervision.
Employment Details
- Position is full-time and permanent.
- Salary is competitive and depends on experience and skill, with additional benefits.
- Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Work location is onsite at the Halifax office in Bayers Business Park; remote work is not currently an option.
