Position Overview

The Bank Street School for Children, a renowned progressive education institution, is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Humanities Teacher to lead 8th grade students. This full-time, on-site role commences on August 31, 2026, offering an annual salary range between $60,000 and $150,000.

Role Responsibilities

• Deliver a Humanities curriculum encompassing Language Arts (reading, literature, writing) and Social Studies, tailored to children's developmental stages.
• Serve collaboratively as a homeroom teacher with the Math/Science teacher, guiding social-emotional, executive function, cognitive, and physical development.
• Regularly communicate and collaborate with families and support networks to enhance student growth.
• Lead a Community & Identity advisory program covering topics such as community, digital citizenship, relationships, human growth, identity, and communication skills.
• Incorporate technology, including Google Suite, to enrich learning experiences.
• Maintain an inclusive and positive classroom environment that reflects curriculum themes.
• Adapt instruction to meet varied group and individual learning needs.
• Provide additional academic assistance to students during work periods and before school.
• Report student progress and concerns through conferences and written reports twice annually.
• Coordinate with tutors and external providers when necessary.
• Engage in bi-weekly meetings with the student learning and support team, including learning and mental health specialists.
• Participate in regular faculty, division, department, and supervisory meetings.
• Commit to advancing social justice, diversity, equity, and anti-bias education, engaging in personal and professional identity development.
• Support school community activities such as lunch supervision, recess, study hall, event planning, trips, assemblies, and special programs.
• Perform required administrative and record-keeping duties promptly.
• Contribute to College-wide committees and divisional program development and evaluation.
• Complete additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 to 5 years teaching experience with middle school students.
• Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Strong understanding of adolescent development and progressive educational practices.

Work Schedule and Conditions

• 10-month academic position covered by the Professional Employees' Federation (PEF).
• Standard working hours: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with one extended evening per week until 5:00 PM for meetings.
• Participation required in one multi-day overnight trip annually.
