Web Designer (UI/UX)

About the Role

The Global Asia Institute at the National University of Singapore (NUS) seeks an experienced Web Designer specializing in UI/UX to oversee the visual design and user experience aspects of digital platforms supporting research, educational, and outreach initiatives.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including top researchers and project managers to craft user-focused, engaging digital interfaces, thriving in both independent and team settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Create visually appealing, user-friendly, and responsive website designs that enhance overall user experience.
• Develop comprehensive user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and polished UI designs.
• Leverage user research and design thinking approaches to transform business and user needs into effective digital experiences.
• Establish and maintain design systems, style guides, and component libraries to ensure consistency.
• Design and produce digital assets such as illustrations, icons, banners, and graphics for websites and digital campaigns.
• Work closely with developers to guarantee accurate design implementation and practical feasibility.
• Perform usability testing regularly and optimize website performance based on data-driven feedback.
• Ensure websites adhere to accessibility guidelines, are responsive across devices, and embody modern UI/UX standards.
• Contribute to branding efforts by maintaining visual uniformity across all digital materials.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in UI/UX Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
• At least 1 to 2 years of professional experience in UI/UX or web design.
• A strong portfolio showcasing skills in responsive web design, interface design, and UX principles.
• Proficiency with design software, including Figma and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD), or similar tools.
• Experience creating responsive site designs suited for both desktop and mobile devices.
• Solid grasp of information architecture, typography, color theory, layout principles, and accessibility requirements.
• Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and front-end development concepts is a plus but not mandatory.
• Experience collaborating effectively with developers through design handoff methods and tools.
• Exceptional visual communication skills, along with strong presentation and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Detail-oriented with excellent time management skills and ability to multitask independently.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
