Role Overview

The Vehicle Technician plays a pivotal role as the expert inspector of autonomous vehicle sensor arrays and mechanical setups. Responsibilities include meticulous examination, testing, and validation of hardware components such as Lidar, Radar, cameras, compute units, and their mechanical mountings to guarantee operational and safety standards prior to vehicle deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Systematically inspect AV sensor hardware (Lidar, Radar, ultrasonic sensors, and compute units) to verify installation, alignment, connectivity, and condition.
• Conduct functional testing and readiness validation before deployment and post-repair confirmation to ensure defect resolution.
• Evaluate effects of environmental factors like heat, dust, and humidity on sensor performance and report anomalies.
• Assess mechanical integrity of sensor mounting hardware, wiring harnesses, seals, and connectors, ensuring correct installation and protection against ingress.
• Verify underbody and chassis conditions post-maintenance to prevent mechanical disturbances affecting sensors.
• Maintain comprehensive logs of mechanical and hardware inspections integrated into fleet maintenance systems.
• Execute hardware performance tests and support calibration protocols in line with partner standards.
• Utilize diagnostic tools and software interfaces for hardware health assessments, documenting outcomes per 4Cs standard.
• Identify, document, and escalate hardware and sensor defects; track issues through resolution and assist in post-incident evaluations.
• Comply rigorously with safety procedures, including high-voltage, lockout/tagout, and mechanical safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.

Candidate Qualifications

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical disciplines is preferred.
• 2–5 years of relevant experience in hardware testing, electronics quality assurance, light mechanical maintenance, or functions associated with automotive/autonomous vehicle technology.
• Hands-on expertise with optical or electrical sensor hardware, with emphasis on Lidar or Radar systems, is highly advantageous.
• Familiarity with mechanical assemblies, fastener applications, torque tools, and basic vehicle servicing skills.
• Comfortable operating diagnostic software and onboard vehicle diagnostic systems.
• Detail-oriented with methodical inspection and documentation skills and ability to analyze test and performance data.
• Physical ability to lift loads exceeding 25 kg and stand for prolonged intervals.
• Possession of a valid UAE driving license is preferred.

Measures of Success

• Consistent and accurate AV hardware inspections and validations conducted before each deployment.
• Timely identification, documentation, and successful resolution of hardware defects.
• Proactive surface and communication of recurring hardware issues to engineering teams, preventing operational setbacks.
• Reliable sensor stacks maintained through stringent quality assurance that prevents deployment delays.

The role reports directly to the Fleet Operations Manager and collaborates closely with the Operations Team.
