Role Overview
The Utilities Operator, also known as Hospital Services Operator, plays a critical role in the Munster Regional Transfusion Centre's Despatch Department in Cork. This full-time position involves the selection and issuing of blood and medicinal products, maintenance and cleaning of the despatch area, stock management, and ensuring operational compliance with quality and safety standards.
Working Hours and Shift Pattern
- The department operates 24/7 on a shift basis.
- Shifts alternate over a two-week cycle, consisting of 7 consecutive night shifts followed by 7 nights off.
- Example schedule: Week 1 - Friday 22:00–09:00, Saturday 23:00–09:00, Sunday 23:00–09:00; Week 2 - Monday to Thursday 22:00–09:00.
- Training hours differ, conducted during standard working hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage as a punctual and professional team member in daily despatch operations.
- Select and process hospital orders, prioritizing timely issuance.
- Carry out daily stock checks, including reconciliation and quality monitoring of blood and medicinal products.
- Prepare and arrange delivery of stock via third-party couriers.
- Maintain consumables and reusable stock inventories.
- Assist with equipment calibration and routine maintenance.
- Label, manage recalls, and properly discard blood products as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with GLP, GMP, GDP guidelines and participate in Quality Management System activities.
- Perform cleaning, de-icing, and decontamination duties within the department.
- Conduct security tasks such as locking buildings and managing alarm systems.
- Participate in mandatory trainings and contribute to staff training sessions.
- Support out-of-hours rosters and adapt to potential changes in shift patterns.
- Adhere strictly to IBTS policies and healthcare GDPR legislation.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum education equivalent to Leaving Certificate.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in all activities.
- Proficient computer literacy.
- Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or training in GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), such as a Higher Certificate in GMP and Technology.
- Previous roles in pharmaceutical, warehousing, hospital services, or operative settings.

Additional Information
- The position offers 27 days of annual leave, pro-rated.
- The role entails a 37.5-hour workweek.
- Salary follows the Medical Laboratory Aide Scale, ranging from €42033 to €49050 annually.
