Position Summary
The Transportation Analyst is a critical role focused on planning, executing, and monitoring shipments across the transportation network. This position combines analytical problem-solving with service-driven communication to enhance shipment visibility, track on-time performance, manage exceptions, and provide detailed reporting to carriers and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with transportation planning by analyzing shipment demand, routing, carrier capacity, schedules, and operational limits.
- Monitor shipment progress through track-and-trace activities, delivering prompt updates regarding shipment status, expected deliveries, appointment modifications, and possible service risks.
- Deliver customer service support addressing carrier and business partner inquiries, resolving shipment challenges, and managing exceptions follow-up.
- Compile and analyze transportation key performance indicators (KPIs) including on-time pickups and deliveries, appointment compliance, shipment visibility, exception resolution, carrier responsiveness, and recurring service issues.
- Generate reports on on-time performance, evaluate delays, missed appointments, and late deliveries to identify root causes and provide improvement recommendations.
- Study transportation data to uncover trends, cost effects, service shortcomings, network inefficiencies, and opportunities to enhance planning and carrier performance.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as Transportation, Planning, Logistics, Operations, Sales, and Customer Service alongside carrier partners to support daily operations and continuous improvement efforts.
- Ensure accuracy and validation of shipment, carrier, and transportation data for reliable reporting and decision-making.
- Review reports to detect inconsistencies, gaps, and exceptions, seeking clarifications to maintain high-quality data integrity.
- Contribute to business case development, cost-saving estimates, budget preparations, and project initiations utilizing transportation data and performance insights.
- Identify process inefficiencies and help standardize transportation planning, reporting, and communication to drive continuous improvements.
- Provide cross-functional support to maintain operational continuity and consistent service levels within transportation activities.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in Supply Chain or Transportation Analysis, preferably within Consumer Packaged Goods, Food & Beverage, or Third Party Logistics sectors.
- Familiarity with the North American transportation landscape, including dedicated or private fleets, truckload (TL), less-than-truckload (LTL) transport (both domestic and cross-border), and intermodal freight.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Experience or exposure to logistics optimization and transportation planning software such as Appian, Paragon, or JDA/Blue Yonder is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (TMS), particularly Oracle TMS, is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and strong customer service orientation enabling effective support for carriers, stakeholders, and operational teams.
- Capability to collaborate effectively with team members at all levels including management and shareholders.
