Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Traffic Management Operative to support various traffic management schemes across multiple projects. You will play a vital role in ensuring operations run efficiently and productively while upholding strict health and safety standards. Flexibility is essential, as the role requires working day and night shifts, including occasional weekends. A responsible and proactive attitude is a must.
Primary Duties
- Supervise all types of traffic control methods including Give and Take, Priority, Stop/Go boards, Portable traffic signals, Convoy working, Road and lane closures, and diversions.
- Execute all tasks adhering to safe working procedures and best practice guidelines.
- Conduct risk assessments and prepare method statements related to traffic management activities.
- Follow established protocols and suggest improvements to your line manager where appropriate.
- Perform daily vehicle inspections to maintain cleanliness and ensure safety of vehicle occupants.
- Maintain a professional company image through proper uniform use, positive attitude, and site tidiness.
- Take initiative to identify opportunities for operational improvements.
- Assist and direct the public safely through work zones as necessary.
- Recognize when to escalate issues to management for intervention.
Compliance and Safety Standards (GTM Golden Rules)
- Only engage in traffic management tasks you are qualified for (minimum LANTRA accreditation).
- Ensure all traffic management setups comply with legislation and standards including the Red Book, Chapter 8, and ARTSM.
- Regularly inspect sites for ongoing compliance.
- Report and correct unsafe acts or conditions when competent to do so.
- Drive responsibly, abiding by speed limits and avoiding distractions to prevent accidents.
- Park vehicles safely, respecting public and other road users.
- Wear full five-point personal protective equipment (PPE) on site continually.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum LANTRA 12d qualification (TTMBC, 12d including M1-M2).
- Additional credentials such as LANTRA 12 a/b, IPV driver, or foreman status considered advantageous.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the distinctions between Chapter 8 and the Safety at Street Works and Road Works (Red Book) guidelines and their application.
- Valid full UK driving license required.
- Ability to interpret and understand CAD drawings relating to site work.
- Mechanical aptitude related to traffic light systems is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
A competitive pay rate ranging from 12.71 to 15 per hour, dependent on qualifications, with higher rates for overtime. An extensive benefits package is also included.
