Role Overview

The Technical Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing all technical and safety-related matters for company-managed vessels. The position ensures that these vessels adhere to corporate and legislative standards of maintenance, operation, and safety, while playing an active part in repairs, surveys, and regulatory compliance.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage all technical and safety operations onboard company vessels, implementing organizational policies.
  • Ensure vessels are properly maintained, coordinating with the Technical Manager on repairs and servicing needs.
  • Handle negotiations and coordination with classification surveyors during vessel surveys, reporting outcomes appropriately.
  • Guide and instruct vessel Masters and Chief Engineers on scheduled maintenance, supporting ship staff in executing these activities.
  • Conduct inspections of machinery spaces for cleanliness and maintenance progress by ship crew.
  • Undertake damage surveys, prepare costing reports, accounts, and necessary documentation for repairs.
  • Travel to ports as directed to supervise vessel repairs and equipment restoration.
  • Draft and implement proposals to comply with new maritime regulations, obtaining necessary regulatory approvals where applicable.
  • Serve as a liaison and trainer for Singapore Polytechnic Cadet Officers.
  • During dry-docking or vessel visits, directly manage all technical and repair activities at the location.
  • Oversee the maintenance of safety equipment, ensuring compliance with legal and company standards.
  • Prepare, submit, and monitor budgets for areas of responsibility; report on financial variances as required.
  • Provide relevant updates to the Technical Manager, including matters related to sea-going personnel.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a COC Class 1 or Class 2 certification with prior sailing experience on oil tankers.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience as a Technical Superintendent in ship management operations.
  • Chief Engineer qualification with sea-going experience is highly desirable.
  • Proven communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with diverse teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Analytical thinking, proactive attitude, and independent work ethic with a result-driven approach.
