Position Overview

We are inviting dedicated and enthusiastic lecturers to join our Social Work program in Sydney. Opportunities are available for both sessional and full-time roles, with flexible scheduling across morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. Teaching sessions take place at our Haymarket campus, conveniently located near Central Station.

Reporting to the Head of School, your main responsibilities will include delivering effective teaching and assessment focused on social work practice. You will prepare comprehensive lessons, assess student work, and contribute to the development of subjects, particularly those involving practical assessments. Depending on credentials, there may be chances to teach across different programs, including master's level courses.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop expertise in assigned subject content and delivery methods aligned with Ikon’s course documentation.
• Deliver engaging teaching sessions using experiential and authentic learning resources, ensuring thorough preparation and review.
• Participate in ongoing development and enhancement of teaching materials and learning designs.
• Facilitate learning through both face-to-face and digital platforms, utilizing the student learning system effectively.
• Support student engagement and provide consultations while communicating relevant issues to appropriate teams.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with all stakeholders to ensure smooth course delivery.
• Mark and assess student submissions promptly within two weeks, employing online comparison and AI detection tools as required.
• Adhere rigorously to the Academic Integrity and Misconduct policies including reporting and investigations.
• Monitor student attendance and engagement records diligently.
• Engage in subject review, moderation, benchmarking activities, and attend academic meetings as required.
• Complete trimester teaching and learning reports under guidance from academic leaders.
• Ensure compliance with academic standards such as AQF, ASWEAS, ESOS, and the National Code.
• Participate in scholarly activities and pursue professional growth aligned with institutional expectations.
• Comply with Ikon’s policies and contribute to meeting performance objectives.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by academic supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

• Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
• A postgraduate degree in social work or a closely related subject at least one AQF level above the course taught; alternatively, equivalent professional experience of at least five years if qualifications match the course level.
• Minimum three years of social work practice experience.
• Familiarity with higher education and AASW standards.
• Up-to-date knowledge of social work practice demonstrated via professional development, practice, scholarship, or research.
• Understanding of current social work teaching approaches, learning assessments, and student needs.
• Strong enthusiasm for preparing students to effectively address social disadvantage and distress.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills.
• Willingness to undergo National Police and Working with Children checks as necessary.
• Experience in lecturing, tutoring, or subject development is advantageous.
