Senior/Intermediate Structural Engineer - Ports and Marine Facilities

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior or Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our Building Infrastructure team in Eastern Canada. This full-time position involves leading technical design, analysis, and project oversight for a variety of facility projects, focusing significantly on ports and marine infrastructure. You will apply your expertise in structural engineering with steel and concrete, mentor junior engineers, manage timelines, and collaborate across disciplines to ensure code-compliant structural solutions.

This role can be based in St. John's, Sydney, Fredericton, or Saint John offices, with flexible hours and hybrid working options to encourage work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design efforts for structural projects including new constructions and renovations within ports, marine, industrial, and institutional sectors.
• Prepare detailed specifications and drawings.
• Review and verify designs and documents for compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Conduct structural condition assessments of existing facilities.
• Review shop drawings and provide on-site design and construction support.
• Manage budgets and schedules for disciplines and projects.
• Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate structural scopes effectively.
• Organize activities within structural engineering teams and support project management for multidisciplinary projects.
• Optimize productivity workflows within technical teams.
• Collaborate with clients and sub-consultants to ensure project objectives are met.
• Provide leadership in business development, focusing on commercial and industrial clients within the facilities market.
• Contribute to proposals and identify new business opportunities.
• Engage in occasional business travel as required.
• Drive innovation by developing and applying technical tools and encouraging creative solutions.
• Participate in continuous professional development and mentor junior staff, guiding their technical growth and career advancement.
• Represent Dillon in professional associations and committees.

Qualifications and Experience

• A degree in structural or civil engineering.
• Professional engineering license in Newfoundland, Ontario, Nova Scotia, or New Brunswick.
• Minimum five years of relevant experience in structural design, especially in the marine sector.
• Skills covering the entire spectrum of design activities such as initial and detailed design drawings, contract documents, and tendering.
• Extensive knowledge of applicable structural codes and standards.
• Proficiency with structural modeling and analysis software including STAAD Pro and Risa 3D.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil3D, and Revit software.
• Strong using Microsoft Office suite.
• Expertise in preparing technical reports and specifications.
• Ability to manage and multitask multiple projects at different stages simultaneously.
• Experience designing reinforced concrete, masonry, wood, and steel structures, preferably including steel sheet pile walls.
• Design experience in wharfs, ports, marine infrastructure, and other related structures.
• Contract administration experience is considered an asset.
