Senior Operations Manager

About the Role

The Senior Operations Manager is responsible for leading and enhancing the entire maritime operational process within the company. This position combines strategic oversight with hands-on management to ensure every phase from voyage planning to post-voyage settlement is executed with excellence. The role involves providing leadership and support to Operations Managers and cross-disciplinary teams while fostering alignment with Chartering, Control, Legal, and Technical units.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee voyage planning and execution, ensuring alignment with commercial goals and contractual obligations.
• Improve instructions related to voyage operations for vessels and agency coordination.
• Manage agency appointments using designated platforms including payment approvals.
• Negotiate agency fees and port expenses to optimize costs.
• Serve as the main escalation contact for operational challenges involving captains, clients, brokers, and agents.
• Collaborate with the Chartering team to implement proactive strategies for enhancing voyage profitability.
• Advise Masters and operations teams on efficient cargo handling and stowage.
• Monitor vessel performance metrics such as speed and fuel consumption, implementing corrective measures and managing related claims.
• Analyze vessel data to inform cost control, fuel efficiency, claims management, and internal reporting.
• Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in operational processes and systems.
• Ensure timely and accurate freight, hire, and time charter invoice processing with the Control team.
• Maintain full compliance with Charter Party agreements and Bill of Lading terms, focusing on payment provisions.
• Oversee issuance and acceptance of Letters of Indemnity, managing associated risks.
• Supervise bunker fuel procurement and management in conjunction with Chartering.
• Confirm comprehensive insurance coverage for voyages, including special risks.
• Lead claims related to vessels and cargo, coordinating with Legal and insurance parties to secure favorable resolutions.
• Ensure all Bills of Lading comply with charter party and T/C contracts.
• Manage operational governance including daily trip updates and profit and loss tracking through internal systems.
• Liaise with Technical Superintendents regarding vessel maintenance and operational readiness.
• Participate actively in weekly meetings to establish priorities and enforce accountability.
• Represent operational leadership in discussions with agents, vendors, and senior stakeholders.
• Provide coaching, feedback, and leadership to operations personnel, modeling professionalism and fostering teamwork.
