Senior Instrumentation Engineer

Job Purpose

Provide expert technical support in planning and executing testing and inspection of instrument safety and safeguarding equipment, including systems like DCS, PLC, and Enraf. Oversee the maintenance of various instrumentation systems and manage the custody transfer measurement validation. Support investigations into instrument equipment failures and oversee the Instrumentation Master Plan.

Key Responsibilities

• Offer technical guidance to develop, review, and update validation programs for custody transfer systems, and communicate findings to external customers ensuring adherence to custody agreements.
• Deliver professional engineering advice and technical expertise to support project development, engineering assessments, shutdown/turnaround plans, and improvement initiatives across SASREF business units.
• Support development and revision of maintenance strategies for field instrumentation, telecommunications, control, monitoring, and safeguarding systems, including Fire & Gas Detection, aiming to improve equipment reliability and integrity.
• Assist in identifying underperforming instrument equipment by analyzing issues and recommending actions to enhance asset reliability.
• Contribute to the creation and execution of integrity audit plans to maintain asset integrity.
• Provide technical support during plant shutdowns and turnarounds to maximize equipment availability and integrity.
• Design, plan, and implement testing and inspection plans for safeguarding and Fire and Gas systems to ensure safe, reliable plant operations.
• Manage changes related to Distributed Control Systems (DCS), including planning and execution of change requests and technical approval of design modifications.
• Maintain ownership of the Instrumentation Master Plan and ensure its continuous updating.
• Oversee contract scope, review work, and monitor execution to ensure high-quality instrument technical services.
• Ensure all relevant processes and activities comply with SASREF policies, procedures, and best practices, delivering objectives safely and cost-effectively.
• Lead, develop, and evaluate a dedicated team to meet business goals and enhance team capability.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in instrumentation or electronic engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• At least 8 years of pertinent professional experience.
