Position Overview
The organization seeks a Senior Grant Compliance Manager to spearhead and enhance the grant compliance division. This role involves building efficient systems and controls, collaborating with various departments, and serving as an authoritative resource on grant regulations. The ideal candidate is passionate about transforming existing frameworks into a top-tier compliance program that secures and manages millions in grant funding annually.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and continuous enhancements to the organization's grant compliance efforts.
- Formulate long-term strategies to improve compliance infrastructure aligned with organizational growth.
- Act as the expert on compliance across federal, state, local, and private grant landscapes.
- Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with Finance, Programs, Development, and Executive teams to reinforce accountability.
- Monitor grant-funded initiatives for adherence to grant terms, funding regulations, and organizational policies.
- Communicate compliance expectations and requirements to relevant staff effectively.
- Create and manage systems for tracking compliance deadlines, deliverables, and obligations.
- Conduct internal compliance reviews, risk assessments, and recommend corrective measures as needed.
- Partner with finance and program teams to verify grant-related expenditures are justified, reasonable, and documented appropriately.
- Assist with grant budgeting, modifications, and revisions.
- Support audits and monitoring visits related to grant programs.
- Coordinate preparation of timely financial and programmatic reports for funders and maintain organized grant document files.
- Oversee document retention policies and manage responses to grantor inquiries and audits, including Single Audit requirements.
- Identify and implement process improvements, update internal controls, and leverage technology and automation to enhance efficiency and reduce risk.
- Monitor regulatory changes, assess risks, and implement mitigation plans to ensure continuous compliance readiness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Nonprofit Management or similar.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Five to seven years of advancing experience in grant management, compliance, auditing, or nonprofit administration.
- Proven knowledge managing federal, state, and private foundation grants and nonprofit accounting principles including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
- Certified Grants Management Specialist (CGMS) or similar certification preferred; CPA license desirable.
- Experience with federal grant compliance, Single Audit requirements, and grant billing processes.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication skills and the ability to interpret complex agreements clearly to varied audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, grant management software, and accounting ERP systems.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Candidates must reside within commuting distance to Seattle, WA, with hybrid work and regular local travel.
- The role involves prolonged computer use, frequent detailed document and financial record review, and some physical activity such as lifting up to 20 pounds and moving throughout office locations.
- Exposure to clients who have experienced trauma requires resilience and self-care practices due to potential secondary trauma.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary range between $108,000 and $118,000 depending on experience.
- Full-time, exempt position with 40 hours per week plus occasional overtime.
