Job Purpose
This position entails overseeing the operation and continuous monitoring of plant systems including the Boiler, Turbine, Generator, Balance of Plant (BOP), switchyard, and transformer sections to guarantee their optimal functioning. The role also involves executing essential start-up and shut-down procedures, managing Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) operations, preserving equipment, encouraging energy conservation, and ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor performance of Boiler, Turbine, Generator, BOP, and electrical units to sustain peak efficiency.
- Conduct start-up and shutdown activities for plant systems when necessary.
- Maintain vigilant observation of plant parameters and react swiftly to irregularities.
- Carry out routine equipment switchovers and test emergency drive mechanisms.
- Manage emergencies involving Boiler-Turbine-Generator (BTG) setups and coordinate remedial actions.
- Address emergencies associated with switchyards and grid disruptions to minimize operational impact.
- Ensure proper isolation and restoration of equipment per operational needs or emergency situations.
- Conduct and supervise Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) system activities and monitor its parameters closely.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date logbooks documenting all plant parameters.
- Drive initiatives in energy conservation focusing on metrics such as Specific Oil Consumption, Auxiliary Power Consumption, Demineralized Water consumption, and Heat Rate optimization.
- Oversee critical chemical parameters to maintain environmental compliance and operational reliability.
- Adhere to and promote IMS, AWMS, DISHA, CHETNA, PTW systems, and Standard Operating Procedures within the department.
- Ensure personnel and equipment safety through proper training and compliance with safety protocols.
- Promptly report defects or operational issues to shift in charge.
- Lead digitization and automation efforts to enhance operational efficiency and incorporate innovative technologies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution.
- At least 3 years of experience in operations at thermal power plants.
- Preferably experienced within the power generation sector, especially thermal power facilities.
