Role Overview
As a Senior Data Scientist within the Advanced Analytics and Modelling team at Canadian Tire Corporation, you will be central to developing machine learning and mathematical models that enhance pricing strategies, loyalty incentives, and price-value scenarios. Your analytics will drive improvements in customer engagement, loyalty program optimization, and marketing efficacy throughout all CTC businesses, underpinning the company’s ambitious True North strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Gain deep insights into the Retail segment, Credit Card Users, Loyalty initiatives, and Marketing programs at CTC.
- Design, apply, and thoroughly document advanced statistical and quantitative models leveraging retail and customer data to support strategic objectives such as boosting customer engagement and enhancing marketing and loyalty program effectiveness.
- Develop and deploy machine learning and deep learning models capable of adapting to evolving datasets and challenges.
- Plan and structure data science projects mindful of both operational demands and technical limitations.
- Conduct sophisticated quantitative and statistical analyses to uncover trends and relationships that impact crucial business decisions.
- Offer innovative solutions and expert recommendations that align analytical insights with business goals.
- Create and maintain data pipelines necessary for deploying AI and machine learning solutions effectively.
- Collaborate actively within the Advanced Analytics and Modelling team and contribute positively to the wider analytics community at Canadian Tire Corporation.
Qualifications & Experience
- A graduate degree is required, with a preference for a PhD in fields like Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related quantitative disciplines.
- More than three years of hands-on experience developing data science solutions specifically for retail or loyalty program contexts.
- Proficiency with optimization techniques including Linear Programming, Mixed Integer Programming, and knowledge of algorithmic tools like Simplex, Gurobi, and Hexaly.
- Experience balancing optimization constraints and solution times while ensuring result reliability.
- Strong foundation in statistics, optimization, mathematical modeling, and machine learning.
- Advanced Python programming skills used for analytical and software development tasks.
- Over three years of experience querying and analyzing extensive datasets using SQL, Spark, or similar technologies.
- Ability to select and justify appropriate statistical and mathematical methodologies tailored to specific business problems and tech constraints.
- Familiarity with cloud-native data platforms and tools for data extraction, transformation, and manipulation, with experience in Databricks and Azure Synapse considered an asset.
- Proven capability in interpreting and presenting complex modeling results to non-technical business partners clearly and confidently.
- Excellent oral and written communication and strong presentation skills.
