R&D / Product Development Engineer

Job Overview

We are looking for a proactive R&D / Product Development Engineer to join our team focused on innovating and enhancing our busbar trunking products. This role is crucial for advancing our product line by designing, developing, and supporting new items that satisfy market expectations, comply with industry regulations, and address customer requirements.

Key Duties

• Specify product features, functions, and requirements while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
• Create product designs in line with applicable standards such as IEC61439 and UL857.
• Produce 3D models and 2D drawings to visualize product concepts.
• Foster an innovative mindset within the product team encouraging original ideas and creative problem solving.
• Collaborate with suppliers and partners to source necessary components and materials.
• Adhere to NPDI (New Product Development and Introduction) processes and maintain all required documentation.
• Keep abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to improve product solutions.
• Construct prototypes to assist product development stages.
• Manage engineering changes for existing products according to procedures.
• Uphold ethical conduct and integrity at all times.
• Perform product risk assessments using DFMEA methodologies.
• Organize technical drawings and documentation for ease of access and reference.
• Provide timely and precise design data and responses to information requests.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Design Technology, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
• Expertise in 3D modeling tools like Creo or SolidWorks and 2D drafting including first and third angle projections.
• Knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management systems and related software.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent time management capabilities.
• Skilled in written and verbal communication, presentations, and interpersonal relations.
• Detail-oriented, analytical, and decisive with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work independently or collaboratively across departments.

Professional Experience

• Minimum of 3 years in design roles within manufacturing or similar industries.
• Desirable experience in power distribution systems or the data center sector.
• Experience designing welded mild steel assemblies and plastic extruded or injection-molded components.
• Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Assembly (DFA), and Environment (DFE) principles.
• Knowledge of process methodologies including PFMEA, control plans, and SOP documentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, and other business tools is advantageous.
• Proven communication and problem-solving skills are essential.
