The Team
The AHL Global Macro team is responsible for the firm’s global macro trading strategies across all asset classes. This team actively trades a diverse range of markets, spanning liquid to alternative assets, with various holding periods. This role is positioned within the AHL Global Trend and Volatility sector, focusing on understanding and modeling the drivers and timing of trends in macro assets.
Role Overview
The Quantitative Researcher will conduct innovative alpha research on global macro assets by developing and testing predictive signals that inform active trading strategies. Responsibilities span the entire research lifecycle, from generating hypotheses and performing statistical modeling to implementation and ongoing evaluation of live strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate and create alpha signals targeting global macro asset classes, emphasizing trend timing and directional approaches.
- Model macro asset behaviors—including rates, foreign exchange, equities, and commodities—to find exploitable patterns.
- Employ rigorous quantitative and statistical techniques to design and assess predictive signals.
- Support portfolio construction and risk analysis within the sector’s strategies.
- Continuously monitor live strategy outcomes and feed findings back into research development.
- Collaborate across the AHL Global Macro research community, contributing to the wider research objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of two years’ experience conducting alpha signal research on macro assets.
- Strong foundation in statistical and mathematical modeling, with proficiency in selecting appropriate analytic tools.
- Advanced Python programming skills and comfort handling large financial datasets.
- Knowledge of portfolio construction methods and risk assessment techniques.
- Understanding of transaction costs and their influence on signal design is advantageous.
Personal Attributes
- Excellent academic background in quantitative fields such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Economics from a top-tier university. A Master's or PhD is preferred.
- Intellectual curiosity and a keen interest in financial markets and macroeconomic drivers.
- Detail-oriented with a hands-on approach to developing ideas from concept through to tested and operational signals.
- Highly organized and able to juggle multiple research projects simultaneously.
- Effective communicator capable of succinctly presenting quantitative insights and engaging constructively with diverse perspectives.
- Team-oriented and comfortable collaborating with researchers, technologists, and portfolio managers.
