About the Role
The Queensland Police Service's Prosecution Services unit is responsible for prosecuting cases in the Queensland Magistrates and Children's Courts. The Prosecutor position entails delivering legal advice alongside a comprehensive array of prosecutorial duties, including court appearances for all case matters. The Mareeba Police Prosecution Corps is a small team handling police-related legal matters in the Mareeba Magistrates Court District and also supporting Magistrates Courts in Atherton, Mossman, Ravenshoe, and Georgetown.
This opportunity offers extensive exposure to various criminal matters in the Magistrates Court, allowing for development of advanced prosecutorial knowledge and skills.
Core Responsibilities
- Deliver prosecution services within the designated jurisdiction.
- Act as the representative of the Queensland Police Service and its members in legal proceedings and functions before the Magistrates, Children's, and Coroners Courts.
- Provide legal advice related to court processes specific to the responsibilities of the role.
- Oversee and ensure the highest quality in police-prepared briefs of evidence.
- Engage and negotiate with Queensland Police personnel, legal practitioners, government entities, and community stakeholders to foster productive relationships and effective policing outcomes.
- Recognize external factors influencing the work environment and contribute actively to legal research, analysis, presentations, and advice.
- Maintain exemplary conduct and high performance standards in daily activities.
Role Requirements
- Mandatory admission or immediate eligibility to practise law as a legal practitioner in Queensland.
