Production Associate

Overview

Hollis+Morris seeks a proactive and hands-on Production Associate to support trade shows, custom projects, and shop operations. Reporting to the Production Manager and Design Director, the role involves independently managing the physical creation of new products and custom pieces from conception to completion. The individual will liaise with suppliers, fabricate prototypes, and troubleshoot production challenges, sharing responsibility for custom product delivery and assisting shop operations as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Transform approved designs and specifications into production-ready prototypes independently.
• Source, order, and monitor materials and components from suppliers, ensuring timely deliveries.
• Collaborate with the Production Manager on custom product requests from initial specifications through fabrication.
• Develop and refine prototypes and pre-production samples, identifying risks and resolving issues during the process.
• Coordinate with external partners and specialist suppliers for finishing and custom components.
• Create shop drawings, assembly instructions, and build notes to facilitate smooth production handoffs.
• Provide support on the production floor, stepping in during the Production Manager's absence.
• Address and resolve early-stage production issues while maintaining the design intent.
• Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures and documentation as products scale to full production.
• Manage logistics and preparation for trade shows, ensuring timely assembly, packing, and coordination with vendors and internal teams.
• Engage in proactive planning aligned with the annual trade show calendar.
• Coordinate scheduling and logistics with internal departments and external suppliers.
• Participate in regular meetings to review development status, challenges, and subsequent steps.
• Assist with sales-driven product requests as required.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 3 years' practical experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, or shop environment, with a track record of independently managing projects from start to finish.
• Proficient in communication with suppliers, owning project outcomes beyond executing assigned tasks.
• Strong hands-on skills in woodworking and/or metalworking fabrication.
• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and technical specifications.
• Familiarity with 3D modeling software such as Rhino, Solidworks, or SketchUp is advantageous but not essential.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with design and production leadership.
• A background in design is a plus but not mandatory; demonstrated project ownership and execution skills in a practical setting are paramount.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This position is primarily based in a shop/manufacturing environment. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods and lifting items up to 25 kilograms, with work in variable conditions.
